Library for All: Currently, the Orena Humphreys Public Library is housed in the old Whitwell Middle School, and is in desperate need of a new place to call home. The people of our community deserve a comfortable, spacious library to utilize. We know this new space will be a haven for readers and learners of all ages. By contributing, you're helping create a space where knowledge knows no bounds.
Celebrating Seniors: Whitwell Senior Citizens Center is presently located in the basement of the Whitwell Coal Mining Museum. The senior citizens center aims to create a warm and welcoming environment for our older community members. Help us establish a space where they can socialize, engage in activities, and receive the support they deserve.
Supporting Veterans: Marion County Veterans Park is an area of the local park dedicated to remembering our veterans. Right now, this is the only place for our veterans to display memorabilia because they do not have a facility. Veterans meet at City Hall the second Saturday of each month at 9:00 AM CST. Our new veteran's center will offer crucial resources and a welcoming environment for those who have served. Your donation can make a significant impact on the well-being of our local heroes.
Preserving History: Located in the former Orena Humphrey Public Library, the Whitwell-Marion County Coal Miners Museum is also in desperate need of better accommodations. This space will be run by retired coal miners and will tell the story of underground coal mining--once the primary industry of Marion County. Help us honor the hardworking individuals who shaped our community. Your support ensures that their stories and sacrifices are remembered for generations to come.
The Children's Holocaust Memorial is currently located on the campus of Whitwell Middle School. The railcar would remain outside the school, but the artifacts library will be moved to a bigger, more museum-efficient space in order to help preserve the artifacts and their stories. Your support in this endeavor would mean generations to come will continue to have access to these meaningful records.
